'We Are Fed Up': Annual Berlin march attracts tens of thousands of people

Tens of thousands of German farmers and consumer rights activists have taken to the streets of Berlin to protest against: so-called ‘animal factories’; genetically modified food; and the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP).
Now in its fifth year, the ‘We Are Fed Up’ march takes place annually during the International Green Week – Europe’s biggest agricultural fair.
Campaigner Jochen Fritz explained why he attended the rally:
“Eating is political,” he said. “Every single decision I make about what to buy is determined by how the animals are kept, or what grows in our fields. Of course, I can buy species-appropriately: I can eat less meat – we eat too much, anyway – meat of better quality. And I can make sure that I support the farmers and not the big agricultural industry corporations.”
Organisers estimate as many as 50,000 people turned out for what is one of the largest yearly protests in Germany.
