STORY: Bangladesh's Christian community celebrated Christmas on Thursday (December 25) by attending a church ceremony in Dhaka.

Hundreds flocked to the capital's church in the morning.

Many prayed for peace and unity in the majority-Muslim country.

"Today is the birth of Jesus Christ and I have come here to join a special prayer session in this Church on this occasion. All together, we will seek blessings from Jesus and this very special prayer will be for the prosperity of all, so that all religions, all communities can live in peace in this country," resident Poly Roslin said.

There are around half a million Christians currently living in Bangladesh.

Local media said Christmas celebrations are particularly prominent in Gazipur, Dhaka and Meherpur, and the Chittagong Hill Tracts.
