France on edge after third attack

The latest violent attack in as many days in France happened on Monday when a van slammed into people at a Christmas market in Nantes.

Ten people have been hurt, some seriously.

Police say the driver tried to stab himself afterwards but survived.

Authorities say the man appeared to have acted alone and probably suffered from mental illness.

They rejected initial local media reports that the man had yelled God is Greatest in Arabic.

A day earlier 13 people were injured at this spot in Dijon when a man yelling exactly that phrase rammed his car into a crowd.

He's been arrested and questioned but prosecutors said later he also appeared to have psychiatric problems.

On Saturday a man was shot as he stabbed and wounded three police officers in central France shouting the same Arabic words.

France is on high alert after calls by Islamic State militants to target countries taking part in U.S.-led bombing of its positions in Iraq.
