On the weekend before Christmas..."The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies" tops the U.S. and Canadian box office, with $56.2 million in ticket sales.
It's the last movie of Peter Jackson's "Hobbit" trilogy -- based on the classic fantasy novel by J.R.R. Tolkien.
Though the film has drawn mixed reviews, it's given the holiday movie season a boost that is crucial to Hollywood.
At number two is "Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb", starring Ben Stiller and Robin Williams, which raked in $17.3 million.
While it did not receive glowing reviews overall, the film did earn praise for Williams' performance -- one of his last roles before his death last August.
In third place, a remake of the 1977 Broadway musical, "Annie", about an orphan girl.
Despite being dogged by poor reviews, the film -- starring Quvenzhane Wallis, Jamie Foxx, and Cameron Diaz -- brought in $16.3 million at domestic theaters.
