Dramatic footage from Australia's Seven Network shows the last moments of Tuesday's siege at a Sydney cafe.

Gunman Man Haron Monis held 17 people hostage for 16 hours and forced them to display an Islamic flag at the window.

Police stormed the building after a shot was fired inside the cafe. Monis and two hostages were killed during the raid.

Thousands of people paid tribute to the victims on Thursday morning near the scene of the siege.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) BUILDING WORKER BRAD SINDEN SAYING:

"I work in the city everyday half a block from where it happened so it's pretty close to home. A lot of the people I've seen on the TV I have interacted with. They are not my friends but it's just a small thing that you can do. It's showing that we're proud and we will not let this beat us."

Police are investigating whether the two hostages were killed by Monis or died in the crossfire.
