Police say a suicide bomber destroyed a bus carrying Afghan soldiers in Kabul, killing at least six of them.

Witnesses recall the horrific scene.

(SOUNDBITE) (Dari) WITNESS ABDUL JABAAR, SAYING:

"When the explosion happened I noticed two soldiers getting out of the bus. One of them was injured on his leg. The other one jumped out of the bus window until the fire brigade arrived. The rest of soldiers burned inside the bus."

Details are still emerging on this latest attack in the Afghan capital.

Violence there has escalated in recent weeks ahead of the planned withdrawal of most international forces in the next two weeks.

Fatalities and injuries among Afghan security forces and civilians has peaked this year to the highest point since the U.S.-led war began in 2001.
