STORY: Outgoing U.S. Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel arrived in Kuwait on Sunday (December 7) after an unannounced visit to Afghanistan.
He was met on the tarmac by several Kuwaiti military leaders, and was then welcomed with customary tea at an indoor meeting with additional officials.
Hagel, who resigned last week under pressure, also made an unannounced trip to Afghanistan on Saturday (December 6). He announced the United States will keep up to 1,000 more soldiers than previously planned in Afghanistan into next year, due to the still formidable challenge from Taliban insurgents.
