Thousands protest in Port-au-Prince

Thousands of demonstrators spilled into the streets of Port-au-Prince on Friday (December 5) to protest the government of President Michel Martelly in the latest anti-government protest in the city.
The demonstration remained mostly peaceful as protesters carrying signs denouncing Martelly and Haitian Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe marched through downtown streets.
The throng walked long distances through the city and passed the French embassy on their way to the presidential palace in the city centre.
Martelly has been facing a heavy tide of opposition over the past year, but it has swelled recently after the government announced in October that it was postponing legislative elections.
There was a heavy police presence, but the demonstration largely unfolded without a major incident.
