Barcelona, Dec 5 (EFE) .- Belgian defender Thomas Vermaelen returned to Barcelona Friday after having surgery in Finland, while his teammates completed training in preparation for Sunday's game at the Camp Nou against Espanyol in La Liga.
The player, who has yet to make his debut with Barcelona because of a recurring hamstring injury, was operated on in Finland by renowned Finnish surgeon Sakari Orava.
Orava has operated on athletes like Frank Fredericks, Marta Dominguez, Yago Lamela and footballers such as Pep Guardiola, Marco van Basten, Aitor Karanka and Didier Deschamps
The player joined Barça in the summer and has not played for the club because of his muscle problems.
The rest of the Blaugrana squad had a training session Friday morning, their first since defeating Huesca in Copa del Rey 0-4.
During the session, manager Luis Enrique had all available players on hand, in addition to youth graduate Munir El Haddadi.
