It was a day of thanks for "Star Wars" fans as they were offered on Friday (November 28) a first look at the trailer for the upcoming and latest installment in the iconic sci-fi film franchise.

The film, which is called "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" has a scheduled December 15 release date and stars Oscar-winner Lupita Nyong'o, Andy Serkis and Adam Driver.

The film, in which original "Star Wars" actors Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill will reprise their roles, will be set 30 years after 1983's "Return of the Jedi."

"Star Trek" filmmaker J.J. Abrams will direct "The Force Awakens," the seventh film in the space epic series created by George Lucas.
