Ferguson church calls for unity, healing on Thanksgiving

The Greater St. Mark Family Church in the hear of Ferguson, Missouri.

It's just a stone's throw from the road that leads to where black teenager Michael Brown was shot by a white police officer in August.

His death sparked angry riots, and two days of protests this week after a Grand Jury declined to indict the officer.

Members of the church community gather over a Thanksgiving Day service, praying for calm in a hometown rocked by all the unrest.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) REV. AUDREY HOLLIS, SAYING:

"It's not like it's play. This is real. This is our lives. We should have a place in this country as well as everyone else. I am very passionate about what's going on and I don't want our people to lose hope."

"A lot of healing is needed in our community. I'm also part of an anti-racist committee of white folks that are trying to do what we can to encourage white people to give up on that racism,
