Calls for peace in Myanmar following deadly attack on military academy

Hundreds gather on the streets of Yangon calling for peace and justice after shelling by the army killed 23 cadets from a rebel military academy.

It's the deadliest attack since 2011.

Protesters say they want justice.

(SOUNDBITE) (Burmese) CHIN RESIDENT MY THIN YU SAYING:

"I want the government to investigate this and punish according to law, how did this fighting happen and who is responsible for this."

The government said the shell that hit the training center was only a "warning" ahead of talks for a ceasefire.

Rebel groups have been fighting for more autonomy under a federal system.
