Three Thais detained for Hunger Games protest

For pro-democracy activists in Bangkok, a screening event for the latest "Hunger Games' movie was the ideal venue to protest.

Authorities have warned the public against using the three-fingered salute, made popular in the series as a symbol of resistance to authority...

Although the protesters say it perfectly symbolizes their own struggle.

(SOUNDBITE) (Thai) 26 YEAR-OLD NATCHACHA KONGUDOM STUDENT SAYING:

"The three-finger sign is a sign to show that I am calling for my basic rights to live my life."

But displaying the symbol and handing out free tickets to the latest Hunger Games film, was too much for police.

Three students were taken into custody.

The Hunger Games is a highly successful series that portrays civil unrest, and a growing rebellion against an authoritarian government.

...Something these protesters say they relate to every day.
