Mark Wahlberg lost 60 pounds to play a literary professor turned gambling addict in "The Gambler".

The film held its world premiere at the AFI Fest on Monday, November 10, with its star turning out to explain why he wanted to make the transformation for this film.

SOUNDBITE: Actor, Mark Wahlberg, saying (English):

"It's something different for me to play a literary professor caught up in this world, shooting in L.A. I mean there were so many pros, not too many cons, other than having to loose the weight and, you know, be miserable for a couple of months but it's well worth it."

And although Mark plays someone self-centred in the movie, on the red carpet he showed his caring side.

SOUNDBITE: Actor Mark Wahlberg, saying (English):

"I've had nothing but good fortune coming to AFI so knock on wood we'll have our third time be a charm. Are you ok? That camera just hit you right on the top of the head, is that your own camera? Alright well, you take it up
