There's no question that the Catalan independentists movement is strong in capital city Barcelona.

But in smaller towns like Sant Vincenc dels Horts- home to more Spanish than Catalan speakers- an interesting alliance is forming.

(SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) POTTER, JUAN MANUEL BECERRA, SAYING:

"A change. We can't go on this way."

The town of about 30,000 people began growing in the 1960's when migratory flows increased from southern Spain.

Today communities from Andalucia, Extremedura and even Morocco coexist with residents in this historically Catalan village.

And for many here, Catalan or not, support is squarely in favour of independence.
