WEB USERS REACT AS BRAZIL REELECTS DILMA ROUSSEFF
Dilma Rousseff took to Twitter shortly after her re-election Sunday October 26, with a short message for the people of Brazil: "Thank you very much". A narrow election victory, she won a little over 51 % of votes, stirring up mixed reactions on social networks.
Several South-American heads of State have congratulated the Brazilian president who has won a second 4 year term in office. The Colombian president, Juan Manuel Santos and his counterparts in Venezuela and Argentina have posted to Twitter applauding the re-election of the Workers Party candidate.
Many Brazilians have also taken to the web, hailing the victory. Social networks are abuzz with posts singing the president`s praises and expressing admiration for the courage she has shown throughout the electoral campaign.
But not everyone`s quite so happy about Dilma Rousseff`s re-election. A section of Brazilian voters, as illustrated by these Twitter posts think her victory at Sunday`s election spells bad news for the future of the country. Web users are suggesting that Brazil can expect more corruption and social inequality with Rousseff leading the country for the next four years.
Comments that highlight the dividing opinion among Brazilian web users. Some fear the strong opinions for and against the president`s re-election could lead to heightened tensions over the weeks and months to come.
