Messi, who has been nursing a sore ankle for several days, was unable to take part in training on pitch 2 at the club's sports complex. Also missing were Neymar as were Douglas Pereira and Thomas Vermaelen. The two defenders trained next to the first team squad as in previous days.
Andrés Iniesta was also absent after he injured his calf in the game against Real Madrid and has been receiving physiotherapy.
Under the gaze of sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta, Barcelona manager Luis Enrique Martínez supervised the session.
