Facebook CEO meets Japanese Prime Minister

Facebook's Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg met with Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Monday (October 20) and told him about the websites new "safety check" function.

Zuckerberg explained the new feature can be used by people caught in a disaster zone to tell their friends and family they are safe.

Zuckerberg said it was the company's Japanese engineering team who came up with the progam after the the earthquake and tsunami in 2011.

The company acquired photo-sharing application developer Instagram in 2012 and virtual reality goggles maker Oculus VR Inc, earlier this year.

Facebook is also taking its first tentative steps into the lucrative field of healthcare.
