Nobel Prize for Physics winner happy to see dream become reality, says he's thankful for 'American dream'

Japanese-born U.S. citizen Shuji Nakamura won the Physics Nobel Prize for developing the blue light-emitting diode (LED) -- the missing piece that now allows manufacturers to produce white-light lamps.

Nakamura says he's thrilled that his invention has become a commodity, and is contributing to a reduction in energy consumption, and maybe even reduce global warming.

"It also makes me happy to see that my dream of LED lighting has become a reality. Nowadays you can by energy-efficient LED light bulb at the supermarket and help reduce energy use. I hope this helps to reduce global warming," Nakamura following a toast to his accomplishment.

He went on to say that the United States gave him the opportunity of living the 'American dream'.

"The problem is that in Japan, after coming to the United States, most big difference between the United States and Japan is that in the United States there is lots of freedom for (a) research
