Messages of solidarity continue to pour out across Britain on Sunday (October 5) for murdered hostage Alan Henning, as members of the Muslim community in Leeds condemn his killing at the hands of Islamic State (IS).

Henning had been held in Syria for nine months before a video was posted on YouTube on Friday (October 3) showing him kneeling against a desert setting next to a masked man holding a knife.

He was part of a convoy taking supplies to a hospital in the northwest of Syria last December when it was stopped by gunmen.

Imam Qari Asim of Leeds' Makkah Mosque said during his sermon that Henning was an inspiration.

"His courage, his passion, his bravery will continue to inspire generations because he did something for humanity. And ISIS (Islamic State), they have no regard for humanity," he told worshippers at the mosque.

Asim said the Muslim community stood in solidarity with Henning and his family against IS.
