Somalia forces recapture key town held by al Shabaab militants

Fisherman on the shoreline of a Somalia town that has now been recaptured from al Shabaab militants.

African Union forces supporting the Somali National Army say they have retaken the town -- and they now look to better times ahead.

SOUNDBITE (French) BURUNDIAN CONTINGENT COMMANDER, COL. REVERIEN NDAYAMBAJE, SAYING:

"Adale is important because it has a seaport which the government can use to generate revenue for the development of this country's economy. The country can now rebuild its hospitals, schools and roads and the people will have some revenue. Previously, the port was used by terrorists, al Qaeda and al Shabaab to enter the country. The port is of great economic importance for the Federal Somali Republic."

Al Shabaab, a Somalia based offshoot of al Qaeda ruled most of the southern part of the country from 2006 until 2011 when African forces drove them out of Mogadishu.
