Devdas is a Hindi film which is based on Sharat Chandra Chattopadhyay novel with the same title. This film got released in year 1935, and it starred K.L. Saigal, Jamuna Barua and T.R. Rajkumari in lead roles. The film was directed by famous film maker Pramathesh Barua.
Devdas (K. L. Saigal) who has played and brought up since childhood with Parvati (Jamuna), eventually falls in love with her. Both love birds love each other a lot, but one day Devdas goes to city Calcutta for his higher studies. In the mean time, Parvati's father arrange her marriage with a man who's much older to her. In such circumstance, Parvati still obeys his father's decision though she loves Devdas. As Parvati decided to marry another man, Devdas gets upset and as a result, he starts taking drinks. He meets a prostitute named Chandramukhi(Rajkumari) whom he has became close to at Calcutta. Chandramukhi has fallen in love with Devdas and leaves her profession to save Devdas. When Parvati gets aware about the decline of health of Devdas, she goes to meet him. Parvati asks Devdas to stop drinking alcohol so much, but he doesn't listen to her and assures he will come to her in his hour of final need. Will Parvati leave her household and come back to Devdas?
