On the eight day of striking, Air France pilots and stewards gathered in front of the French Parliament on Tuesday to call on the aviation company to abandon their expansion for low cost carrier. The main pilots’ union, SNPL, said Monday’s offer to delay the expansion until December was a smoke screen, accusing the airline of trying to move jobs to countries with lower taxes and cheaper labour. Jean-Louis Barber, Air France pilot and president of SNPL (Syndicat National des Pilotes de Ligne – Union of pilots), added that their biggest issue was with the plans to out-source jobs to other countries.
About half of the airline’s flights have been cancelled due to the strike action. Air France-KLM airline said the strike was costing up to 20 million euros (25 million US dollars) a day.
