Thousands of hungry and dehydrated flood-victims of one of the worst floods in Pakistan’s history attacked trucks carrying food aid on Tuesday in Chund Bharwana town of Jangh, Dunya News reported. Chief Minister of Punjab Shahbaz Sharif returned without addressing the flood-affectees in the wake of chaos and mismanagement.
Annoyed at the insufficient food aid and deplorable relief efforts provided to the flood victims, the affected people became furious having to wait for Shahbaz Sharif for several hours. According to reports, Shahbaz Sharif was due to address the victims at 1 pm whereas the administration had gathered the already-starving affectees under the bare sun at the venue since 10 am. After waiting for nearly four hours, the flood victims resented by attacking the truck carrying food packages and other relief material. The attack on the relief lorry resulted in looting and raiding as hundreds of flood survivors scrambled for the food packages. However, the security forces did not intervene to stop the unruly crowd. The flood survivors caught up in a chaos caused by exchange of expletive-ridden language, minor scuffles, fist-fights and snatching of food items. Chief Minister of Punjab, however, arrived at the scene around 1.40 pm and was forced to leave without making a public speech due to the turmoil and disorganization caused by the brawl between the flood survivors.
