Oscar Pistorius has been released on bail after being found guilty of culpable homicide for the death of model Reeva Steenkamp.

He is due to be sentenced on October 13 and could face up to 15 years in prison.

The 27-year-old double amputee was also ruled to have illegally discharged a firearm in public.

But the judge overseeing his trial found him not guilty of numerous other offenses, crucially acquitting him of murder.

After the verdict the athlete’s uncle, Arnold Pistorius, took stock of the decision: “A tragic event like this, there’s no victors in this. We as a family remain deeply affected by the devastating tragic event. And it won’t bring Reeva back but our hearts still go out for her family and friends.”

Reeva Steenkamp was killed on Valentine’s Day 2013.

Pistorius has long maintained he shot her believing she was an intruder.
