Sérgio Mendes still has the magic and Stevie Wonder goes on tour

At the age of 73, Brazilian pianist Sérgio Mendes is claiming to still have the “magic”: or at least that’s the name of his new album out now.
Famous for his fusion of genres, especially bossa nova, jazz and funk, Mendes has shaped his five-decade career on collaborations with other musicians. This album is no exception, with contributions from celebrities like John Legend, will.i.am and Janelle Monae.
“For me it’s really important to work with others. I’m a very curious person and I love working with other artists, who can bring something new to the music. Ultimately, what matters is the music. For example, the people I worked with on this album wrote beautiful lyrics, I could never do that. I write melodies and harmonies. That, for me, is what working together is all about,” he says.
Coinciding with the launch of his new album, Sérgio Mendes is currently touring America.
Meanwhile at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles, music legend Stevie Wonder has announced some special news:
“Well, first of all, I want you all to know, I want to make the announcement today so everyone’s clear, this whole blind thing has been a gimmick,” said Wonder, breaking into laughter.
The real news is that he is planning a rare tour across a dozen of cities in the US and Canada.
“You can expect to see anyone who wants to come and jam with me as we do ‘Songs in the Key of Life’, if they happen to be in the city that we’re in or if they want to hang out and travel a little bit. India (Arie) has talked about coming out, I spoke with Herbie Hancock the day before yesterday and he’s going to do a couple of things. I’ve invited Chick Corea but, you know, anyone can come,” he said.
Alongside his landmark 1976 album ‘Songs in the Key of Life’, Wonder will also be performing new tracks from his upcoming album.
The Stevie Wonder tour kicks off in New York City in November ending in Oakland in December.
