Social upheaval in Pakistan turns deadly after at least one woman is killed in clashes between protesters and police.

Opponents of Pakistan's Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif are demanding the premier step down and say they won't give up until he quits.

After facing rubber bullets and tear gas, they say their right to protest has been violated.

(SOUNDBITE) (Urdu) PROTESTER, RASHID AWAN, SAYING:

"Is this democracy? In democracy, people have a right to protest. You are showering them with bullets and shells through your police?"

Cricket-star-turned politician, Imran Khan, is blasting Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar for his handling of the protests.

(SOUNDBITE) (Urdu) OPPOSITION LEADER, IMRAN KHAN, SAYING:

"Bravo, well done Nisar! What a brave man you are for what you did with unarmed people. No one can be more cowardly than you. We will get a case registered against you. We will get a case registered against Nawaz Sharif."
