Germanwings cancels flights as pilots go on strike

Lufthansa’s low cost carrier Germanwings has cancelled more than 100 flights planned for Friday (August 29) morning, as pilots go on strike in a row over an early retirement scheme.

Around 15-thousand passengers are set to be affected by the six-hour walkout, which began at 0600 CET.

Pilots want managers to maintain a scheme which allows them to retire early at 55 and still keep some of their pay until they reach the age at which state pensions start.

Talks on Thursday broke down without any agreement.
