This is what's left of a synagogue after a rocket was fired from Gaza into Israel.

It was one of many targets of Hamas militants.

The Islamic militant group appeared to be stepping up attacks after Israeli forces killed three of its senior commanders.

More than 80 rockets and mortars hit Israel.

A four-year-old boy died in this attack on a farm in a southern Israeli village.

He was the first Israeli child to die in the six-week conflict.

"I am very sorry to tell you about a child died from a rocket that Hamas shoot to the Kiputz of Nahal Oz. So I am the first paramedic that coming to the patient I could do nothing because the head injury and he's died in my hand."

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed that Hamas will pay "a heavy price".

The army carried out about 30 air strikes on Friday.

Here the repercussions can be seen.
