"Tracing the Persian Language in the Mughal Empire" - Shariq Khan

It is commonly known that Persian was the language of the Mughals, but was this always the case? Why was Persian chosen to be the language of the empire, instead of the Mughal's native Turkic, or Sanskrit, or Braj? The answer will be explored, as we trace the journey of Persian into Akbar's imperial court and thenceforth to the end of the dynasty.

Shariq Khan is from Lahore. He studied farsi at SOAS, UK. He is currently studying history at Kenyon College, Ohio, USA.
