The Zamoskvoretskiy district court in Moscow sentenced four defendants on Monday found guilty of committing violent acts against police officers and rioting. Protesters gathered outside the court building as the sentenced was passed, including Pussy Riot member Nadezhda Tolokonnikova. At least two people were arrested.

Alexey Gaskarov and Aleksandr Margolin were both sentenced to three and a half years in prison, while Ilya Gushchin got two and a half years. Elena Kokhtaryova was given a suspended sentence of over three years.

Their cases all relate to actions which occurred in Moscow's Bolotnaya Square on May 6, 2012. In December 2013 Russia's State Duma passed a bill granting amnesty to around 20,000 convicts and suspects, including many people arrested during the events on Bolotnaya Square. The lawyers of those charged are expected to appeal the sentences.
