Northern Fantail (Rhipidura rufiventris) in Timor.
The Northern Fantail or scientifically known as Rhipidura rufiventris is a species of bird in the Rhipiduridae family. It is found in Australia, Indonesia, and Papua New Guinea. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests and subtropical or tropical mangrove forests.This species has a very large range, and hence does not approach the thresholds for Vulnerable under the range size criterion. The population trend appears to be stable, and hence the species does not approach the thresholds for Vulnerable under the population trend. The global population size has not been quantified, but the species is reported to be fairly common.
Timor is an island at the southern end of Maritime Southeast Asia, north of the Timor Sea. It is divided between the independent state of East Timor, and West Timor, belonging to the Indonesian province of East Nusa Tenggara. The island's surface is 30,777 square kilometres. The name is a variant of timur, Malay for "east"; it is so called because it is at the east end of a chain of islands.
