In 2010 Madhu, heading a team of amateur singers, won the inaugural Sun TV music competition Sangeetha Maha Yuttham against five other teams, each helmed by a professional singer.
In October 2010, Madhu and his pals, S36 the band, released their self-titled debut album of experimental songs. The band is helmed by cricketer Sreesanth, who is also Madhu's brother-in-law. The album is a compilation of songs that the group had informally released on the Internet earlier. These include Jaago India, an inspirational song intended for the World Twenty20 Championship in 2007, and a song intended as an unofficial theme for the 2010 Commonwealth Games. Madhu, along with M. Jayachandran and M. G. Sreekumar, recorded songs for the Acethetik initiative. His contribution includes light music and Hindu devotional songs for the website.

A devotional song sung beautifully by Madhu Balakrishnan praising Lord Rama.

Sri Rama or Sri Ram is the seventh avatar of the God Vishnu in Hinduism. Shree Ram is considered to be the most important avatar of Vishnu. He is also one of the most popular gods in Hinduism and is widely worshipped throughout Nepal and India. Ram is referred to within Hinduism as Maryada Purushottama, literally the Perfect Man or Lord of Self-Control or Lord of Virtue. Rama is revered for his unending compassion, courage and devotion to religious values and duty. Rama, Hindu deity worshiped throughout India as the seventh avatar of Vishnu, worshipped together with his wife Sita and devotee Hanuman.Rama is the central figure of the Sanskrit epic poem the Ramayana and represents the ideal hero. The seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu, Rama is said to have taken birth on earth to annihilate the evil forces of the age. Lord Rama is seen as an ideal of Dharma and noble virtues. His wife, Sita, an incarnation of the Goddess Lakshmi - consort of Shri Vishnu, exemplifies the ideal wife. The life story of Rama and the main purpose of his incarnation (to destroy the demon king Ravana) is described in the great epic Ramayana.
