Barcelona, Aug 9 (EFE).- Belgian defender Thomas Vermaelen signed with FC Barcelona for the next five seasons Saturday and was presented as a new player for the Spanish-league side the following day.
The center-back, 28, arrived Saturday in Barcelona and successfully passed the obligatory medical exam before signing his new contract.
Barça will pay Arsenal some 15 million euros ($20.1 million) for the player's transfer, plus a variable bonus of another 4 million euros ($5.4 million) if the team wins the Champions League at least twice.
Vermaelen posed late Saturday afternoon with the Barcelona crest in the offices of the club, and was presented in the Ricard Maxenchs press room at Camp Nou Sunday.
