The latest truce between Israel and Hamas didn't come soon enough to save 11-year-old Khalil.

The Palestinian boy was killed by Israeli soldiers in the occupied West Bank, during clashes with rock-throwing protesters.

His death happened just hours before Israeli and Hamas officials announced each side had agreed to a new three-day truce.

The hospital where Khalil was taken said the boy suffered a gunshot wound to the back of the head.

His uncle, Youssef al Anati, says his nephew was not taking part in the protest.

"He is an innocent boy. He is not carrying bombs or rockets, there were no clashes. This is the Zionist acts, they target our children anywhere."

The Israeli military released a statement saying its troops were responding to a "violent riot" when a Palestinian boy was "unfortunately" hit.

It's investigating the incident.
