More death and devastation in Afghanistan but this time a rare attack in the heavily fortified capital.

Debris and rubble are scattered across this busy Kabul road and here a damaged NATO armoured vehicle.

A suicide car bomber targeted a convoy of foreign forces in the western part of the city along Darul Aman Road.

Several Afghanis were killed including children and dozens wounded.

"There was a dangerous powerful explosion here. Five to six people were laid on the ground. Three of them were already dead when I saw them. Another one died on the way to the hospital. All those casualties were poor civilians and more than 20 were wounded."

Police have cordoned off the area and launched an investigation.

The Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack.
