As prime minister of Libya, Abdullah al-Thinni has come to this week's U.S.-Africa Summit in Washington, in need of help.
Fighting for control back home between rival militia groups has worsened in recent weeks...
leaving hundreds of people - mostly foreigners -- no choice but to leave altogether.
For prime minister al-Thinni, meeting with Secretary of State John Kerry was a chance to reaffirm Washington's support.
(SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) PRIME MINISTER OF LIBYA ABDULLAH AL-THINNI SAYING:
"We also ask the United States to stand by the Libyan people and its Parliament and its government so that it can overcome this very difficult period that it is experiencing."
But the U.S. is among those countries who've left Libya in recent weeks, closing its embassy due to security concerns.
Even so, Kerry says long-term stability is achievable, with help from the U.S.
