Washboard Wiggles - Jazzticots 2003

A few months ago I received a CD from a friend in the Netherlands. He had been to a concert of a French jazz band called “Les Red Hot Reedwarmers.” This band played in a style of the Jimmy Noone Apex Club Orchestra from Chicago in 1928-31. I was perplex after I heard the recordings of this fantastic French group. ( go and find out for yourself!)

I contacted their leader Stephane Gillot to find out if they had recorded anything on video. He didn’t think so, but would stay in touch just in case.
Stephane plays reeds and so does Aurelie Tropez.
A few days ago I received a DVD from an old friend who lives in France. It was a compilation of video clips from a number of jazz bands in France.
(Good idea: this DVD was send to you after you would take a subscription to the French jazz magazine “Jazz Dixie/Swing””
On this disc I found a clip of Aurelie playing alto sax. A band called “Jazzticots” play here at the 2003 Montbard Jazz Festival. Her sister Deborah is the featured washboard player in “Washboard Wiggles” Other members are Jean Pierre Geraud clarinet, Romain Couprie banjo and Jean Marcel Tropez sousaphone or “Souba”. Is Jean Marcel an older brother or their papa?
