Immigration activists protest at White House against child deportations

Supporters from an advocacy group called Casa de Maryland protested outside the White House on Thursday (July 31) against the deportation of children.
The protesters were demanding that U.S. President Barack Obama stop the deportation of immigrant children.
U.S. officials are trying to cope with an influx of 57,000 children traveling alone and predominantly from Central America who have arrived at the U.S. Southwest's border with Mexico since October, with projections that the number could rise to 90,000 by the end of September.
The immigration issue has flared into a fresh fight between Obama and Republicans in Congress, with the president accusing Republicans of blocking wider reform on immigration.
Republicans, however, blame the Obama administration's policies for the wave of unaccompanied minors.
Of the several hundred protesters in attendance, 112 were arrested, organizer Susana Flores said.
