Residents in the eastern Ukrainian city of Donetsk rush into the street, with many preparing to flee.

Shelling hit two residential buildings Tuesday, as intense fighting raged between advancing Ukrainian troops and pro-Russian rebels.

One woman shouts: "Why should our children suffer? Why should our children live through this? Why should our homes be destroyed?"

Another local man, angered by the incident, says the strike was targeting the residential building.

(SOUNDBITE) (Russian) UNIDENTIFIED MAN, SAYING TO ANGERED CROWD:

"This was done on purpose, they were aiming specifically at this house. Maybe terrorists live here, that lady there with the pushchair with the little girl, maybe the little girl is a terrorist. I don't know, do you understand?"

The force of the blast caused damage to many of the apartments around 3:30 local time.

Some stay inside and attempt to make repairs.

It's unclear if anybody was killed or wounded by the shellin
