The actor welcomed guest to a special screening for his documentary "To Be Takei" aboard the Queen Mary 2 before heading off on a 8-day vacation on the ocean liner.
The new film, which will give viewers a peek inside his childhood, career, marriage and life as an activist, was directed by Jennifer Kroot.

"We didn't want this to be a vanity project. So we told her we trust you, you're a good documentarian, we did our homework on that. And so you have carte blanche. We will not demand final cut approval."
Most people know Takei from his role on "Star Trek," in addition to being a vocal advocate for the LGBT community.
However, one thing people will be surprised to learn as a child he and his family were forced to leave their home in California.
