With photos depicting death and chants of defiance, hundreds in New York City protest the ongoing bloodshed caused by fighting between Israel's army and Hamas militants in Gaza.

The large crowd waved banners, marched into Times Square and demanded more protest.

"And make sure that you're sending a message to the U.S. government that you will not allow your taxpayer dollars to kill children in Gaza."

The protest came as Hamas and Israel agreed to a 12-hour humanitarian truce, which starts Saturday at 8 a.m. Israeli time.

The protest also came amid rising death tolls.

Gaza officials say 844 people have been killed in 18 days of conflict.

The death toll for the Israeli army has increased to 35.
