Yatseniuk offers to quit as Ukrainian PM

The move came after a day of turmoil in parliament.

Two parties in the majority coalition quitting its ranks - one of its leaders reportedly complaining that not enough was being done to counter Moscow's influence in the chamber.

Yatseniuk said there was little choice but for him to quit.

(SOUNDBITE) (Ukrainian) UKRAINIAN PRIME MINISTER ARSENY YATSENIUK, SAYING:

"In the absence of a new coalition - and the current coalition has split - the government and the prime minister have to tender their resignation. I'm announcing my resignation because of the split of the coalition and blocking of government initiatives. Glory to Ukraine!"

Yatseniuk chided politicians for failing to pass laws on energy, and on the budget to increase financing for the army.
