STORY: North Korean state media on Friday released footage of leader Kim Jong Un watching rockets being fired at a strategic force unit near the country's western border.

The North's state-run KRT also showed Kim speaking to military officials at the unit.

Kim called on troops to be prepared for combat, KRT said. It did not specify when the video was shot.

North Korea routinely fires short-range missiles or rockets into waters off its east and west coasts.

The North is subject to U.N. sanctions for its missile and nuclear programmes and has threatened to conduct a fourth nuclear test.

North and South Korea are still technically at war after the 1950-53 Korean War ended in a truce, not a peace treaty.
