The big brands do battle in Britain as the Farnborough Air show opens for business.

The usual dogfight between Airbus and Boeing is central to proceedings as the giants scramble for sales.

As many as 1,500 exhibitors from 40,00 countries display their wares to 100,000 industry representatives.

British Prime Minister David Cameron brought the public purse with €1.3bn inside and a shopping list:” We are able to announce today an extra billion pounds of spending to keep our country safe. Things like surveillance aircraft, special forces things that can stop terrorism before it reaches our country. Absolutely vital.”

As the deals are done the Russians have been left out in the cold with Britain banning a Russian delegation in protest over the situation in Ukraine.

The British government invites foreign delegations to Farnborough, despite its commercial nature.
