German soccer fans celebrate as their team beats Argentina 1-0 to win the world cup

These were the scenes in Frankfurt in the early hours of monday morning, as an impromptu car rally made its way through the city.

(SOUNDBITE) (German) GERMANY FAN, JENS WEHMEYER SAYING:

"It was great. They had a great World Cup. Can't complain. We are just happy, or not?"

(SOUNDBITE) (German) GERMANY FAN, CHRISTIAN BALLAUFF SAYING:

"Super. It was outstanding! Awesome! Super match. Goetze was great, wasn't he? Well, now for next time, in 2018, world champion again."

Even a lone Argentine fan had no choice but to join in the celebrations.

Here in Berlin thousands of fans packed into the Kurfürstendamm shopping street.

This may be the fourth time the German team has brought the cup home, but it's their first in 24 years. And it's their first as a united Germany.
