Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy is in the hot seat.
Suspicions are circulating that he used his influence to prevent a probe into his 2007 election campaign.
Something he was surprised to hear:
(SOUNDBITE) (French) FRENCH FORMER PRESIDENT NICOLAS SARKOZY SAYING:
"It's very simple: I am profoundly shocked by what has happened. I don't ask for any special treatment. If I have made mistakes, I will face the consequences. I am not a man who flees his responsibilities."
After being detained for 15 hours on Tuesday, he was transferred to the investigating magistrates.
Then released without bail.
Members of Parliament are not sure what to think, but want answers.
