ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION)

U.S. President Barack Obama joined White House staffers watching the USA-Belgium World Cup soccer game, where he began a chant, "I believe that we can win," as the crowd joined in.

As the room quieted, Obama briefly addressed the room, saying, "So I was worried that if I walked in and Belgium scored, I'd get in trouble -- oh no!"

Then, turning to take a seat in the front row, reporters heard Obama say to the aides seated near him, "All right, let's see what's happening." And he turned his attention to the game.

Strong performances by the U.S. team in Brazil have ignited passions in a country not known for its love of soccer.
