Prince Harry meets with victims of Valparaiso wildfire

Britain's Prince Harry met on Saturday (June 28) with victims of the devastating wildfire that leveled large swaths of the port city Valparaiso in April.

The prince toured a portion of the 10,000 hectares of destruction and met with several families living in temporary shelters.

The Chilean government estimates some 10,000 people were affected by the fire. Many of the victims were poor people who in lived in houses perched high on the Valparaiso's remote hills. Some 2,000 currently live in interim settlements on the outskirts of the city.

Prince Harry visited three families living in the El Vergel camp and sat down to breakfast with members of the community. The non-profit group TECHO, a non-governmental organisation aimed at helping the poor, hosted the prince's visit to the area.
