Obama touts Minnesota "day in the life" visit

President Barack Obama on Saturday (June 28) reviewed his trip last week to Minneapolis which was billed as the first in a series of trips aimed at reconnecting Obama with Democrats, ahead of midterm elections in November.

"I went because of a letter I received from a working mother named Rebekah, who shared with me the hardships her young family has faced since the financial crisis." Obama said during his weekly address.

Obama said there are still too many middle-class families like hers who are struggling to get ahead and he placed much of the blame on Republicans in Congress.

"The problem is, Republicans in Congress keep blocking or voting down almost every serious idea to strengthen the middle class," Obama said. "This year alone, they've said no to raising the minimum wage, no to fair pay, no to student loan reform, no to extending unemployment insurance.
